Random (Brandable) Thoughts

He that hath wife and children hath given hostages to fortune — Francis Bacon

He that hath registered domains hath given hostages to fortune. —- Gigadomains

Brandables may be the domains which are most subject to the vicissitudes of evolving meaning (or usage). A meme or fad that falls flat can doom a domain containing it faster than… I hesitate to make some clever attempt at analogy.

And then there’s the scientific innovation you were counting on, and invested in —- that died on the table, or is taking far longer to go mainstream than you had hoped. Maybe you have a collection of domains featuring drone, bot, 3d, 4d, 5d, driverless cars, holo-VR-AR-etc. If so, are you feeling vulnerable yet? Even if your choice grows into a healthy scientific enterprise, is it out of the average business’ ability to develop? Must you sell to a huge company or none at all?

Yes, domains may be hostages to fortune, but I hope you can give that wheel a spin. Acquiring domains and using them is our favorite business.

There is a sign I drive past when I go through town; it belongs to a consulting business. Every time I see it, I feel this faint hope — in the future of dignity in our society or some such nonsense. But then my cynic kicks in and my baser self starts chuckling. Most of the world can’t afford dignity any more…. But I never forget this sign, and I am struck anew* each time I pass it. It has a hold on me.

It’s Value Of The Person Consulting. Their domain: ValueOfThePerson.com. I discovered they are following a West Coast-discussed trend called Theory R, which means generally “doing what is Right.”
